Testing and prospects of air pollution prediction technology based on CHIMERE and COSMO-Ru2ART chemical transport models

The technology for numerical air pollution prediction operating in the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia is based on calculations with CHIMERE and COSMO-ART chemical transport models (CTMs) a grid horizontal step 2.2 km using EMEP inventory data atmospheric emissions updated 2013 meteorological COSMO-Ru2 atmosphere model. paper presents results testing model forecasts pollutant (NO2, CO, PM10, O3) concentrations continuous observations Moscow region 12 months. A predominant overestimation by an underestimation were revealed. Both CTMs mainly underestimate transport-type areas. seasonal variability deviations sign change each was identified. largest observed under abnormal weather conditions: during summer heat waves spring advection dusty air. Taking into account errors established CTM, recommendations are formulated producing operational consolidated forecast integration simulations two CTMs. development modified CTM versions 2019 0.1×0.1° discussed.
